1941 Columbia Street in Little Italy, San Diego is inspired by the narrow and winding streets of Venice, Columbia contains 18 apartments which are separated by delicately carved voids, creating internal courtyards that compress and expand. 1941 Columbia is a forward-thinking, boutique living environment with sustainability as a central theme. Surrounding two private landscaped courtyards, the units are designed to work as small townhomes in an urban village. The fragmented buildings eliminate shared walls, which maximizes privacy, natural airflow, and light. In addition, each unit is uniquely designed to take advantage of private outdoor space while still maintaining a sense of community among the complex.
